About the Role
The Teacher, Multi-Classroom Leader 1 (MCL1) intensively coaches 4-6 teachers using co-teaching, modeling, and small-group support. The role involves leading a team of teachers and support staff responsible for multiple classrooms, setting annual goals for team members, and organizing teaching roles based on individual strengths and professional development goals. The MCL1 ensures student progress through regular reviews and adjustments to instruction, collaborates with the team to improve teaching and learning, and is accountable for the development of all teachers and students on their caseload. Daily coaching and preparation time are provided to fulfill instructional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, as well as the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards and MCL Core Competencies.
- Lead the establishment of a highly effective Professional Learning Community (PLC) culture.
- Build capacity in team members to set high, measurable expectations for student achievement and create instructional tools and materials.
- Backwards plan to align lessons, activities, and assessments; model and practice teaching strategies; and analyze student work to determine next steps.
- Create classroom environments that foster collaboration, individual learning, respect, and enthusiasm.
- Design or lead schoolwide initiatives, serve on curriculum or assessment committees, and partner with parents and community organizations.
- Ensure instructional strategies, assessments, and resources align with student achievement goals.
- Define high-quality instruction in collaboration with the school principal and Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
- Facilitate data analysis and action planning for whole-school improvement.
- Hold students accountable for ambitious academic standards and address individual learning needs.
- Support students' organizational and time-management skills and engage them in learning using various techniques.
- Provide coaching support to teammates, conduct regular walkthroughs or observations, and use data to provide evidence-based feedback.
- Set clear, teacher-driven goals grounded in student outcomes and instructional evidence.
- Maintain high growth for students assigned to the team caseload and follow program frameworks for observing and providing feedback.
- Solicit and receive feedback to improve professional skills and lead team communication with families.
- Design scheduling for instructional time based on teacher strengths and allocate instructional tasks among team members.
- Model instructional tasks, clarify team roles, and prepare team members for potential role changes or advancement.
- Provide feedback to the principal concerning team members' instructional performance and participate in professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- Must be in the CMS Teacher Leader Pathway Talent Pool as an MCL1.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 4 years of prior teaching experience with 2 years of demonstrated high-progress student outcomes in relevant subjects.
- NC Professional Educator’s License in the subject area and grade level appropriate to the school’s needs.
- Evidence of initiative and effective leadership/coaching of adults.
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area.
- Ability to utilize data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
- Understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
- Knowledge of the subject matter being taught and proficiency in technology and digital learning (if required).
- Excellent computer and reporting skills.
- Ability to lead and coach adults to improve student achievement.
- Strong goal-setting, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Pay
Full-time, 10-month position with supplemental pay:
- Non-Title I School: $11,250 supplemental
- Title I School: $16,000 supplemental
Schedule
Full-time, 10-month schedule.
Special Requirements
- This position is fully released from classroom teaching duties.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or provide own transportation for travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.
