About the Role
The Library Media Specialist teaches students to access, evaluate, and use information from multiple sources for media literacy and technology production. The role includes providing professional development to staff on integrating media and technology into the curriculum, ethical uses of information, and copyright. The specialist oversees building-wide computer needs, acquisition, and circulation of materials and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Implement Minnesota State Standards and District Graduation Requirements.
- Teach required curricula using strategies that foster thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with peers to develop and implement best practices based on student needs and abilities.
- Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs and provide appropriate instruction.
- Create safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments that are multicultural, gender-fair, and ability-appropriate.
- Collaborate and communicate regularly with families to support educational decisions and leverage community resources.
- Align instruction with the goals of the Minneapolis Public School District Improvement Agenda and site/school goals.
- Assess instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process (PDP).
- Participate in ongoing professional development through coursework, research, peer collaboration, and job-embedded staff development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Prior successful experience student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting.
- Demonstrated continued professional development through coursework, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development.
- Valid Minnesota teaching license in K-12 Library Media Specialist; or proof of pending approved licensure.
Qualifications

Pay
Salary Range: $55,796–$116,593
