About the role

Promotes and coordinates the use of instructional resources, technology, and equipment which will enrich the curriculum, stimulate growth, and challenge students in their research, study, and lifelong learning.

Ensures the effective use of information and empowers students to be critical thinkers, readers, skillful researchers, effective communicators, and ethical users of information.

Collaborates with classroom educators to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and assesses student learning and instructional effectiveness to ensure essential skills integration.

Provides the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.

Responsibilities

  • Empowers all members of the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, curators, and ethical users of information.
  • Manages the staff, budget, and the physical and virtual spaces of the school library.
  • Schedule and support activities for the library program which may include author days, reading promotions and incentives, and school-wide literacy activities.
  • Supports learners’ success by guiding them to read for understanding, breadth, and pleasure.
  • Evaluate, introduce, and model emerging technologies for the learning community, and uses technology tools to supplement school resources.
  • Perform necessary record-keeping for all library resources, including a full inventory of all resources no less than every two years.
  • Supports learners as they make meaning for themselves to create new knowledge by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance.
  • Organize and reshelve returned items.
  • Teaches all members of the learning community to engage with and use information in a global society.
  • Maintain and repair library materials.
  • Fosters exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset.
  • Attend District trainings pertaining to the library: Destiny, databases and digital resources, collection development, weeding, purchasing, etc.
  • Help plan and participate in special library events (district-wide events and school specific events).
  • Performs routine tasks such as answering phone calls, maintaining a clean and organized library environment, and other necessary tasks.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with teaching certification.
  • A graduate degree earned at a college or university whose program is recognized by appropriate bodies such as The American Library Association (ALA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), or state education agencies (CDE).

  • Ability to bend and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting & standing.
