Teacher, K-6/ 4th Grade Math (26-27 SY)

About the Role

The elementary school teacher performs instructional work under moderate supervision, providing leadership in the educational environment to encourage and nurture learning for all students. The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to meet diverse student needs, all in alignment with Board of Education policies and under the direction of the principal.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, as well as the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
• Assist school administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop and maintain fair classroom behavior and procedures.
• Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
• Plan and implement a program of study in the assigned content area tailored to student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Instruct students individually and in groups using diverse teaching methods to engage learners and achieve curriculum goals.
• Establish clear learning objectives aligned with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Standard Course of Study and district curriculum framework.
• Prepare for classes and maintain written evidence of preparation; diagnose student learning challenges and seek assistance as needed.
• Maintain accurate records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
• Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for activities; encourage exploration and perseverance through learning opportunities.
• Use strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess student progress; act as a test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program.
• Observe and assess students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical needs.
• Meet with parents/guardians to discuss progress, priorities, and resource needs; encourage parent involvement.
• Confer with parents, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic challenges.
• Prepare and implement enrichment and remediation programs.
• Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning.
• Participate in professional development to improve skills and knowledge.
• Maintain a safe instructional environment, including conducting safety drills.
• Perform related work as assigned or required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Valid NC Teaching certification or eligibility for certification in the assigned area.
• Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area.
• Knowledge of data-driven instructional decision-making, learning styles, curriculum development, and effective instructional strategies.
• Proficiency in verbal and written communication, as well as computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Ability to learn and use specialized instructional tools, equipment, or software.
• Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures.
• Strong problem-solving, judgment, and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently, and exercise sound judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, team-oriented environment.

Pay

Certified salary schedule.

Schedule

Full-time, 10 months.

Reports to: Principal

Work location: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools premises, with the possibility of assignment to other locations as needed.
