About the Role

The elementary school teacher performs instructional work under moderate supervision, providing leadership in the educational environment to encourage and nurture learning for all students. The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to meet individual student needs, all in alignment with Board of Education policies and under the direction of the principal.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, as well as the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
• Assist school administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop and maintain fair classroom behavior and procedures.
• Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
• Plan and implement instructional programs in the assigned content area tailored to student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Instruct students individually and in groups using diverse teaching methods to engage learners and achieve objectives.
• Establish clear learning objectives aligned with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Standard Course of Study and district curriculum framework.
• Prepare for classes and maintain written evidence of preparation; diagnose student learning challenges and seek assistance as needed.
• Maintain accurate records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
• Provide an inclusive instructional program for all students, including those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for activities, offering a variety of learning resources.
• Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and develop critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills.
• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess student progress; act as a test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program.
• Observe and assess students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical needs.
• Meet with parents/guardians to discuss progress, priorities, and resource needs; encourage parent involvement.
• Prepare and implement enrichment and remediation programs.
• Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning.
• Participate in professional development to improve skills and knowledge.
• Maintain a safe instructional environment, including conducting safety drills.
• Perform related work as assigned or required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Valid NC Teaching certification or eligibility for certification in the assigned area.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area.
• Ability to utilize data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
• Understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computers and software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment, or software related to instructional practice.
• Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures.
• Effective problem-solving, judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a deadline-driven, team environment.

Pay

Certified salary schedule.

Schedule

Full-time, 10-month position.

Reports to: Principal

Work location: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools premises, with the possibility of assignment to other locations as needed.
