About the role

Community Action is seeking 3 full-time teachers to join our team. Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or higher, two years of experience teaching children ages 3-5, and be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans using Creative Curriculum.
  • Support the planning and implementation of the curriculum and individualized education services to children in the class.
  • Ensure the successful inclusion of all children, including those with mental health and/or special needs.
  • Work with Early Childhood Special Education staff and partners to identify and provide appropriate services.
  • Conduct home visits, parent-teacher conferences, and other parent-focused activities to establish a positive link between home and school.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed working knowledge of Community Action Head Start Policies and Procedures and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Provide relationship-based support to assist families in skill development to achieve their family goals.
  • Identify and follow up on progress and barriers to progress.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of an Associate of Early Childhood Education or equivalent; sufficient to be placed at Step 9 or higher on the Oregon Registry.
  • Experience: At least a year of qualifying teaching experience in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of children ages 3 - 5.
  • Background check: Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
  • Testing: Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to date of hire.
  • Licenses and Insurance: Requires a valid Oregon driver's license, proof of auto insurance for private vehicle, and/or access to reliable transportation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or qualifications that would allow the candidate to be placed at ORO Step 10.
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and another language.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of Head Start.
  • Training and/or education in working with children with special needs.

Skills

  • Ability to translate written material.
