TEACHER-ESE SPECIALIST
About the role
The Exceptional Student Education Specialist provides on-site procedural and curricular assistance to all school-based personnel regarding the education of students with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the principal’s designee for all exceptional student education (ESE) staff.
- Coordinate required ESE meetings.
- Provide information to school-based personnel on a variety of topics, including updates on policy changes.
- Aid regular education teachers in implementing the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and monitoring progress of IEP goals.
- Aid staffing committee members in developing appropriate IEPs and ensuring parents receive draft IEPs for all annual reviews.
- Meet with ESE curriculum supervisors monthly to discuss curricula, related services, and program delivery systems for students with disabilities.
- Explain to parents the Procedural Safeguards and available district resources to meet the unique needs of the student.
- Utilize facilitative behaviors to conduct efficient and productive IEP meetings, ensuring all participants feel valued and heard.
- Identify, report, and correct IDEA compliance concerns internally and externally.
- Report all compliance concerns directly to school-based leadership and correct identified errors.
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure IEPs for students with disabilities are implemented with fidelity.
- Generate IEP documents using the electronic management system.
- Participate in training programs to enhance individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
Qualifications
- An earned bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Florida certification in at least one area of exceptionality.
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in Exceptional Student Education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual skills are preferred.
Significant Contacts
Support general education teachers and students with disabilities through consultative instruction, as identified through each student’s IEP.
Physical Requirements
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment
- Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan.
- The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
