Teacher Elementary Certified Special Education - Special Programs (CCE)

About the Role

The Teacher Special Education position supports the instructional process by developing special education students' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living. This role involves supervising students, developing and delivering lesson plans, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.

Responsibilities

• Administers developmental testing programs, district assessments, and/or state tests to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Provides first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering) under supervision.
• Advises parents and legal guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Assesses student progress toward objectives, including behavioral, motor development, communication, academic, and vocational abilities.
• Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, parents, business partners, and community resources (e.g., OT, PT, SLP) to improve student outcomes.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods for classroom and subject-specific assignments to address individual student requirements.
• Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials aligned with individualized learning plans.
• Directs paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to address individual student needs.
• Instructs students to improve academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files (e.g., IEPs, SEAS) in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in educational environments (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips) to ensure safety.
• Participates in meetings (e.g., SAP, IEP, PLC) to convey and gather required information.
• Prepares written materials (e.g., IEPs, grades, attendance records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse) to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
• Responds to emergency situations and inquiries from students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
• Schedules students with paraprofessionals and other personnel for academic or therapeutic instruction to meet IEP goals.
• Supports classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient work unit functioning.

Requirements

• Missouri State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Certification.
• Skill in applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, and using pertinent software applications.
• Knowledge of Board of Education codes, policies, regulations, and laws; District processes; age-appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; child development stages; and behavioral management strategies.
• Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships, adapt to changing priorities, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, and work flexible hours.

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance required. Continuing education units required for ongoing certification.

Schedule

182 days per year, 7.5 hours per day.
