TEACHER, ELEMENTARY, BILINGUAL SPANISH REQUIRED

Teaches appropriate grade-level standards-based curriculum in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Personal Development to diverse elementary students, following District Literacy Program and Everyday Math or other school/District-approved curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares lesson plans and materials according to District-approved curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Presents subject matter to students using various teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and learning styles.
• Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress; reports grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavior and academic problems.
• May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.
• Leads for racial and educational excellence and works to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community; believes in and supports all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high-quality education.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required). A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
• Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas. (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
• For ELA-S (English Language Acquisition - Spanish) positions: candidates must take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing. Click here for more information. Additionally, if a teacher has taken or chooses to take the Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exam, it will also be accepted if the candidate scores 163 or higher.
• For ELA-S positions: Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (required).
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without accommodations.
