About the Role

Teaches appropriate grade-level standards-based curriculum in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Personal Development to diverse elementary students, following the District Literacy Program and Everyday Math or other school/District-approved curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students, reinforcing positive behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepares lesson plans and materials according to District-approved curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Presents subject matter to students using various teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and learning styles.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups using lectures, technology, and discussions.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
  • Prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavior and academic problems.
  • May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (a Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions).
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications.
  • For ELA-S (English Language Acquisition - Spanish) positions: Teaching in both Spanish and English requires candidates to take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing. Click here for more information. If a candidate has taken or chooses to take the Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exam, a score of 163 or higher is acceptable.
  • For ELA-S positions: Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Commit to leading for racial and educational excellence and dismantling systems of oppression and inequity in the community.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while employed with DPS.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without accommodations.

Pay

Salary is based on the DCTA Teacher and SSP Hourly Schedule. The listed salary reflects the 2025–2026 school year. Salaries for the 2026–2027 school year will be finalized mid-summer, with an effective date of August 1. Updates will be communicated if adjustments are made.
