Job Summary and Purpose
The Head Start Teacher will provide children with an environment that includes varied activities to help children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development, with the overall goal being to achieve social competence for the child.
Essential Duties
- Plays a key role in implementing the program curriculum for children enrolled in morning and afternoon classes (double sessions), including individual and group activities.
- Conducts classroom planning.
- Observes, screens, and assesses children's developmental levels.
- Develops goals that relate to the child's individual needs.
- Provides a planned program of activities that support and enhance the role of parents as the prime educators of their children.
- Maintains a learning environment that reflects the varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children in the program and the larger communities and societies in which they live.
- Performs other duties as required and may be subject to change.
Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
- Must have access to an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a valid California driver’s license, or have means to other easily accessible transportation.
- Proof of TB clearance within 6 months prior.
- Annual Influenza vaccination between Nov. 1st - Mar. 31st.
- Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization.
- Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to: Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequently kneel and squat. Ability to move quickly.
- Education: AA in ECE/CD or related field. 24 units of ECE/CD. 6 semester units of Infant/Toddler (at least 3 units are required at hire, and any additional units for a total of 6 units are required to be completed within 1 year of hire).
- Experience: 2 years of teaching experience. 1 year of supervisor experience.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1 year of infant/toddler experience. 2 years of teaching experience. Child Development Teacher Permit with a minimum of 3 units administration. 1 year of experience with infant/toddlers. Head Start performance standards. Creative curriculum. Bilingual English and Spanish (written and verbal).
