Job Goal

To provide specially designed instruction as required by students' Individualized Education Plan, administer educational evaluations, assist in determining eligibility for special education, and assist with compliance of local, state and federal requirements for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Responsibilities

  • Case manage assigned children by developing IEPs, collecting progress monitoring data, reporting progress and coordinating services.
  • Implement individual and small group instruction to implement IEP goals and preschool curriculum for individual children.
  • Plan and provide training and support for paraprofessionals, other professionals and families regarding IEP goals.
  • Provide an educational environment where instruction is individualized for each student and includes supports and modifications that facilitate learning.
  • Implement district curriculum. Design activities that engage children in active learning.
  • Actively engage in professional development activities.
  • Use a variety of different educational techniques (for example storytelling, playing games, media presentations etc.) for instruction.
  • Facilitate development of children's social skills, self-esteem, self-regulation and academics.
  • Inspire children to communicate with each other in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Facilitate positive conflict resolution.
  • Supervise students during classroom instructional activities, recess and snack time.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with parents and provide appropriate information.
  • Evaluate students' academic, communication, and social growth.
  • Keep appropriate records for progress monitoring and complete the district preschool assessment (Desired Results Developmental Profile) twice yearly.
  • Ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, paraprofessionals and administration.
  • Directly supervise a classroom aide/paraprofessional.
  • Participate in required meetings, committees and school activities.
  • Adhere with all relevant health and safety standards and policies of the Jefferson City Public Schools.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in education.
  • Current Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Certification (B-3).
  • Knowledge of special education processes.
  • Knowledge of specialized instructional strategies to needed to meet the needs of preschoolers with a variety of special needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of child development and latest education theories and practices in special education.
  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Creative teaching abilities.
  • Patience and flexibility.
  • Believe in positive behavior supports for student success.
  • Possess outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
