About the Role

Supervises day-to-day classroom operations and communication with parents. Works with the teaching team to plan and implement age-appropriate activities, and to provide a caring environment where children are safe and secure. Cares for the health, welfare, and safety of children under 5 years of age in a group setting.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the classroom environment that promotes the health, safety, and well-being of all children daily.
  • Operate with the standard that all BCH, DEEC, and center policies are adhered to daily.
  • Provide healthy breakfast and snacks for the children while addressing food allergies per Individual Health Care Plans and family dietary restrictions daily.
  • Adhere to diapering/toileting policies per the Department of Early Education and Care policies and procedures daily.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team weekly to discuss the development of all individual children and plan a play-based, child-led curriculum.
  • Intentionally promote equity and inclusion daily through teaching decisions while developing and implementing curriculum.
  • Implement planned curriculum by collecting toys and materials to set up and open the classroom daily.
  • Observe and document assigned primary care children daily in advance of writing assessments quarterly or semi-annually, depending on the child’s age.
  • Complete all required developmental assessments every 6 months for children aged 15 months to 5 years; every 3 months for infants, as required by DEEC.
  • Complete developmental books tracking each child’s development.
  • Distribute and collect the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) to assigned primary care parents, score ASQs, and use data to identify red flags in growth and development quarterly or semi-annually.
  • Meet with parents quarterly or semi-annually to discuss developmental assessments.
  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with children daily through intentional play and actions.
  • Develop each child’s executive function to help them manage thoughts, emotions, and behavior as they pursue goals daily (e.g., attention, working memory, self-regulation, reasoning, problem-solving).
  • Document formative assessments daily to measure progress toward goals and inform real-time instruction.
  • Report unusual or extreme behavior that may indicate emotional, developmental, or physical problems as it happens; help plan and implement interventions for children with extra needs.
  • Maintain annual professional qualifications registration with DEEC and complete 20 hours of professional development annually, with a 25% focus on special needs.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings in accordance with DEEC regulations.
  • Complete mandatory background record checks every 3 years, including CORI, SORI, DCF, and fingerprinting.
  • Communicate daily with parents about each child’s day through written notes and spoken words (Infant – Preschool).
  • Complete weekly classroom reports to be shared with parents in weekly newsletters (Preschool).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 3–5 years of professional teaching experience with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
  • Department of Early Education and Care Certification required.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification required.

Sign-on bonus: $2,500.00. Referral bonus: $1,500.00.

Pay

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this role at the time of posting. Any base pay offer depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and other job-related factors.
