Teacher - Biology, Gr. 9-12 (Long Term Substitute) (SY26-27)

Responsibilities

• Teach Biology
• Use the Rubric of Effective Teaching to demonstrate priority skills and abilities
• Meet ambitious learning goals for all students
• Create cognitively demanding tasks and model belief in all students' ability to master challenging material
• Assess students' understanding regularly and make necessary adjustments to instruction
• Show passion and optimism about students, content, and teaching profession
• Communicate content knowledge creatively and engagingly
• Scaffold and differentiate instruction to support all students in doing complex thinking and rigorous academic work
• Build a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued
• Actively create and maintain an environment respecting students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges
• Engage with families and build collaborative, respectful relationships
• Reflect on practice, seek and respond to feedback, and commit to continuous learning and development
• Participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community

Qualifications

• Hold a bachelor's degree and a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Biology at the appropriate grade level
• Meet state and federal guidelines for being fully licensed and "Highly Qualified"
• Ability to meet Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools
• Current authorization to work in the United States
• Preferred: SEI endorsement or dual certification in ESL, experience teaching in urban schools, fluency in one of BPS' official languages

Terms

The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some BPS schools have a longer school day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
