About the role
The individual will coordinate with the teacher to carry out all classroom functions that will promote the social, cognitive, physical, and emotional development as well as the nutrition and healthy well-being of the children and their families.
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in the coordination and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum addressing the educational, social, emotional, nutritional, and physical development of the children.
- Utilizes positive guidance methods such as redirection and reinforcement; maintains reasonable and consistent guidelines and anticipates problem areas in advance when possible.
- Adapts lesson plans, methods of instruction, use of classroom materials, level of assistance, and learning environment as needed to meet the needs of children having a disability according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP/IFSP).
- Affords assistance in the administration of ongoing assessments on each child, compilation of progress notes, and maintenance of monthly classroom reports.
- Encourages and promotes family achievements by helping families obtain resources and supports that enable them to reach their identified goals.
Requirements
- CDA preschool credential required or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, or an Associate Degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Head Start NC Pre K Teacher Aides are required to have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, or an Associate Degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education.
- One or more years' experience teaching pre-school children.
