About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Teacher Assistant specializing in Special Education for a 12:1:1 classroom setting. In this vital role, you will support students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges. Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
• Provide classroom support by helping students with daily activities, including literacy, math, and social skills development.
• Support students with communication needs by utilizing techniques such as American Sign Language (ASL) or other augmentative communication methods.
• Manage behavior through positive reinforcement strategies and behavior management plans aligned with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
• Offer physical assistance to students requiring mobility or sensory accommodations, ensuring safety and comfort at all times.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies accordingly.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information while documenting observations and progress reports accurately.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in classroom or childcare settings is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of special education practices, including supporting students with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral disorders.
• Familiarity with classroom management techniques and behavior support strategies for students with special needs.
• Experience working with IEPs and implementing accommodations to support diverse learning styles.
• Proficiency in basic math, literacy education, and early childhood development principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information professionally while providing compassionate support to students.

Pay

$25,000 – $30,000 per year
