The Arc Erie County is seeking Teacher Assistants for its Preschool Education program in Tonawanda, NY.

About the role

As a Teacher Assistant, you will work with students with developmental disabilities individually and in small groups to carry out activities that fulfill objectives outlined on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Responsibilities

  • Work with students individually and in small groups to carry out IEP-based activities.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in large group activities, providing special help to students most in need of individual attention.
  • Maintain regular communication with the classroom teacher regarding student progress and needs.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary staff meetings and in-service training meetings.
  • Assist in the supervision of students.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of individual students using assigned data collection methods.
  • Assist school-age students during swim programs, both in and out of the water.
  • Demonstrate continued growth in skill and knowledge through interactions with students and staff.
  • Document students' progress toward goals and objectives as instructed by the teacher.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, sit, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, climb stairs, and lift/transfer up to 30 lbs.
  • Carry up to 30 lbs; good vision, hearing, speech clarity, and motor coordination.
  • Physical ability to intervene in crisis situations using prescribed techniques (e.g., SCIP-R).
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, memorize, and follow detailed written/oral instructions.
  • Strong communication skills, leadership, and ability to work independently or cooperatively.
  • Professional attitude, discretion, and strict adherence to confidentiality rules.
  • Ability to operate household appliances and office equipment (computer, copier, fax).

Pay

Starting at $17.00 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time positions available, Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM or 8:15 AM – 2:45 PM. No weekends, nights, or holidays.
