Teacher Assistant - Part-Time (21-29 hours per week)

About the role

This full-time, non-exempt position is for a Teacher Assistant in the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) at Concordia University Chicago. The role reports directly to the Director of the Early Childhood Education Center and is located in River Forest, IL. The Teacher Assistant collaborates with the Lead Teacher to support the physical, social, cognitive, spiritual, and emotional development of children in a nurturing, Christ-centered, and developmentally appropriate environment. This is a part-time position requiring 21–29 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Foster the development of each child spiritually, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
• Collaborate with the head teacher to support curriculum implementation as directed
• Prepare and assist with the physical setup and cleanup of classroom activities as outlined in each classroom’s list of duties
• Maintain responsibility for the health and safety of the children
• Promote the Center’s mission and vision statement
• Maintain appropriate contact with and provide support for parents and families
• Serve as a center-wide substitute as needed
• Assist with monitoring and supervising the work and attendance of lab students, observation/methods students, and student teachers as needed
• Follow standards set by DCFS, NLSA, and NAEYC

Minimum Experience

• 1 year of experience as an assistant teacher in an Early Childhood Education Center preferred

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
