About the role

The Teaching Assistant, Level 2 provides support to the instructional program within assigned classrooms by assisting in the instruction of individual or small groups of students in various subject areas, implementing behavior-modification programs, monitoring and reporting student behavior and performance, and performing clerical duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
• Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework, make-up work, etc., to support teachers in the instructional process.
• Assists instructional staff in improving students’ learning skills, self-care, and/or social development to provide learning concepts and materials.
• Prepares and presents a variety of instructional materials in specialized and/or mainstream education classrooms to reinforce learning concepts.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions.
• Communicates with teachers regarding assigned students’ progress to participate in needs assessments and/or assist in evaluating progress.
• Documents observations of student performance in academic and school activities (e.g., social skills, behavior, assignments) for written records and compliance with mandated requirements.
• Guides special education students in personal interactions and specific issues to develop interpersonal skills and successful problem-solving strategies.
• Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of assigned teachers to reinforce learning concepts.
• Maintains instructional files and records (manual and electronic) to provide written reference and meet mandated requirements.
• Monitors students’ performance under the direction of the classroom teacher to provide feedback aligned with IEPs.
• Obtains homework assignments for students at different academic levels to address classroom requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
• Supervises and escorts students to/from classes to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Reports observations and incidents (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate behavior, safety conditions) to communicate information to appropriate staff.
• Supports classroom teachers and school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.

Requirements

• Age 16 or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s Degree or 60 quarter hours/48 semester hours or successful completion of courses in English, mathematics through geometry and algebra, chemistry, physical science, computer entry and retrieval, health, and social studies or passing the ParaPro Praxis exam.

Pay

Hourly rate: $18.74

Schedule

5.8 hours per day.
