Teacher Assistant - General Education (SB) ONE YEAR ONLY

Compensation: $18.25/hour plus benefits. The hourly rate includes a mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Educator License with Stipulations (Paraprofessional or Professional Educator License) or Substitute Teacher License
• Appropriate verbal and written language skills
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Specific knowledge-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job
• Ability to use basic job-related equipment
• Experience working with children preferred
• Ability to work well with students and staff
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and/or monitor small group and one-on-one instruction to present, guide, and reinforce skills, concepts, and strategies
• Use a variety of instructional and motivational techniques to encourage student learning and achievement
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with students and staff
• Maintain and update records of student progress, attendance, test scores, and personal information as requested
• Prepare instructional materials for class or "pull-out" small groups
• Prepare supplies, materials, and equipment for lessons
• Participate in meetings and professional development activities as assigned
• Substitute for fellow workers as needed, including supporting special education and specialized handling and care of students (toileting, diapering, and feeding)
• Monitor students in various settings (classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, assemblies, field trips) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
• Perform before- and after-school supervision, as well as lunch and recess supervision as assigned
• Support and implement District policies, procedures, regulations, and administrative directives
• Adhere to ethical standards and codes of the profession
• Perform other related duties as directed by the building or district administrator
