Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, implementation, and supervision of meaningful activities that are developmentally appropriate and meet the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of the children.
- Interact in a positive manner with the children, being alert to their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs.
- Communicate with children at their developmental level.
- Maintain a nurturing and positive environment to promote children’s self-esteem.
- Absorb and assist in the preparation of record keeping including daily care forms, information forms, attendance forms, and inventory.
- Absorb and assist in the observation, evaluation, and record keeping of the children’s developmental progresses.
- Absorb and assist in the reinforcement of positive behavior and use time out minimally.
- Comply with all state and local regulations regarding the care of children.
- Become familiar with school routines and policies while keeping Director of Child Care informed.
- Absorb and assist in the assistance of individual children who experience difficulty in the group.
- Absorb and assist in the observations and documentation of significant individual and/or group behavior.
- Absorb and assist in the preparation of self-care activities, feeding, toileting, and personal care for children as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment including general housekeeping before and after meals and snacks, laundering of items used by children, reporting potential hazards, and enforcing safety practices.
- Intervene in a positive manner when children are likely to injure themselves and/or each other.
- Maintain visual supervision of the children at all times, never leaving the children unattended.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an active enrollment in CDA program or Associates in early childhood education preferred.
- Some prior experience working with young children.
- One (1) year experience supervising young children.
- NAEYC membership preferred.
