Teacher Assistant (After School Program)

About the role

82nd Street Academics is hiring part-time Teacher Assistants for our 2026 Summer Programs at multiple campuses, including Renaissance Charter Schools 1 and 2, PS280, and our main site in Jackson Heights. Assistants will work with elementary, middle, and high school students in enrichment programs featuring arts and crafts, sports, field trips, leadership opportunities, and performances.

Schedule

• Location 1: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, split into two shifts, Monday through Friday
• Location 2: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Friday
• Location 3: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Friday

Training begins in June 2026; programs run from early July through mid-August.

Pay

$18 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Support student participation in high-quality programming under the guidance of Lead Teachers and Site Director
• Serve as role models for students
• Monitor attendance and use engagement strategies to increase daily attendance
• Adhere to policies on attendance, punctuality, dress code, and respectful interactions with students, colleagues, families, and staff
• Communicate with families about concerns and provide excellent partnership management in the school community

Requirements

• Plan towards college graduation (required)
• At least one year of experience working with students in a professional setting
• Commitment to the program through mid-August (non-negotiable)
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish (preferred)

• Strong communication and organization skills
• Creativity for problem-solving and supporting students in diverse situations
• Ability to take initiative and implement positive change amid challenges
