About the role

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) seeks a Teacher Assistant to support the educational and developmental needs of preschool children. The role involves assisting teachers in implementing educational objectives, promoting family involvement, and participating in various quality assurance efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in pre-service training.
  • Implements approved curricula in the classroom.
  • Guides and facilitates activities for children, including daily activities and field trips.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Supports the teacher in ensuring children are kindergarten-ready and achieving high CLASS scores.
  • Assists in conducting home visits and parent conferences.
  • Assists in recruiting and orienting volunteers.
  • Completes required reports and maintains accurate time sheets.
  • Distributes newsletters and flyers to families.
  • Attends all required training, workshops, and meetings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A National Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Preschool Endorsement, Florida Child Care Professional Certification (FCCPC), or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP).
  • Enrolled in a degree program or holds an associate, bachelor, or advanced degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field.
  • Successfully completed 45 hours of Florida Child Care Facility training and a Certificate of Completion of an approved 10 hour Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Preschoolers within 12 months of hire.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Completed a Level II background screening, local criminal record check, health, TB, and drug screening.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or another language present in the local area preferred.

  • Knowledge of behavior modification theories and practices.
  • Understanding of current educational techniques and practices.
  • Ability to make presentations to groups.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain work-related reports and files.
  • Confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use related software.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to administer CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to implement safety procedures.
  • Positive attitude towards teamwork and cost-effective program operations.
