Teacher Assistant ($1000 sign on bonus!)
Brief Description
Assists teacher in providing developmentally appropriate education programs that support the optimal growth and development of the students in the program. Supports Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements the goals, procedures, and practices as established by the teacher to foster a challenging learning environment.
- Affords assistance in the implementation of lesson plans and classroom routines.
- Selects and prepares developmentally appropriate educational materials.
- Supports the development of self-help skills (feeding, toileting, & dressing).
- Affords assistance in preparing and maintaining all records and data as required by regulation and/or the Bureau of Day Care, NY State Education Department, NYC Department of Education.
- Ensures a safe environment following all Infection control and universal precautions.
- Maintains professional boundaries with colleagues, system-wide staff, and families, and understands and appreciates the family’s choices and decisions with regard to their child.
- Facilitates the safe arrival and departure of children by assisting in busing and transport duties on a daily basis.
Essential Duties
- Participates in meeting and other assigned committees.
- Affords assistance in planning and preparing parties, field trips and graduation.
- Participates in shared departmental duties of preparing the school environment for daily activities including getting the meal cart, ordering supplies, putting away supplies.
- Coverage and direction in teacher’s absence as needed.
Requirements
- Formal education required: Two years of college or an Associate degree in early childhood education required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Must possess Teacher Assistant Certification granted by the NY State Education Department.
- Previous Experience Required: Experience working with children of various abilities & age groups required.
- Summary: 2 years Early Education classroom experience preferred.
