TEACHER - ALTERNATIVE

Location: Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center, 700 Four Mile Parkway, Canon City, CO 81212

About the Role

We have teaching positions available for those who want to make a difference in the lives of at-risk adolescents. If you have a bachelor’s or higher degree (from a regionally accredited college or university) and the drive to become a teacher, we offer a career pathway. For the right candidate, we will pay for you to attend a Colorado-approved alternative preparation program and provide on-the-job training while earning a paycheck as a full-time teacher.

Alternative educator candidates may include:

• Recent undergraduates who have never enrolled in or did not complete a teacher preparation program;
• Early career changers who have graduated from college, worked for a few years, and realize they want to become educators;
• Community members with college degrees and life experiences who want to positively impact children in their community;
• Paraprofessionals who have completed their bachelor’s degrees and are seeking a pathway to licensure;
• Retired military members who would like to “serve again” by becoming educators.

Pay

$60,000 annually

Full-time, Monday - Friday

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Teaching certificate/license (Secondary level required) from the state of Colorado, or enrollment in Alternative Licensure Program
• Endorsement and/or licensure in Special Education, Affective Needs, or Generalist
• Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery
• Meets the requirements of the ‘No Child Left Behind’ Education Act
• At least twenty-one (21) years of age
• Must pass federal and state background checks, including criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances, and FBI if necessary) screening for crimes such as drug-related offenses, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors
• Non-communicable diseases physical exam and drug test
• Ability to work with computers and necessary software typically used by the department
