30 hours per week (6 hours/day, 7:30am–2:30pm), 10 months per school year.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to a student at a parochial school within the district full days.
- Take directions from teaching staff.
- Work collaboratively with school personnel to improve student achievement and character development.
- Assist with personal care, including toileting and lifting students (two-person lift may be required).
- Work in life-skills classrooms, job-coaching settings, or with special-needs students.
- Familiarize yourself with and contribute to the successful implementation of the District’s Mission and Belief statements.
- Oversee students completing assigned projects.
- Assist the teacher in recording grades and marks.
- Proctor and help conduct examinations.
- Assist in correcting test papers, themes, and essays.
- Manage records, materials, and equipment.
- Supervise students doing remedial work directed by the teacher.
- Assist in preparing bulletin boards, teacher aids, and organizing materials.
- Operate audio-visual equipment when required.
- Arrange for films, projectors, and related equipment/supplies.
- Read in a foreign language from prepared scripts for tape recording.
- Oversee technical operations of language laboratory equipment.
- Set up science laboratory equipment, conduct experiments, and perform limited review of student laboratory reports.
- Assist in the technical preparation and production of television programs.
- Read to and play records for children in primary grades.
- Provide piano, violin, or other musical accompaniment.
- Supervise students and perform other support services as determined and supervised by teachers.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR
- Four years of experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Skills
- Ability to establish good relationships with students, teachers, and others.
- Ability to gain and hold the confidence of and maintain a patient, understanding attitude toward school children.
- Ability to maintain order in classrooms and enforce school regulations with firmness.
- Familiarity with classroom routine.
- Good background or knowledge in the specific field where specialized duties are involved.
- Resourcefulness in conducting activities indirectly related to the teaching process.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Dependability, neat personal appearance, tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position (including lifting and assisting with personal care).
