Teacher Aide (Early Childhood)
About the role
Assist the classroom teachers with the daily functions in the classroom. Essential core qualities include being comfortable leading prayer and sharing faith with students and staff, enthusiasm, warmth, dedication, ability to differentiate instruction, and belief in an inclusive learning environment. Strong verbal and written communication and teaming skills are required, along with technology skills for student management tasks and instruction. The role also requires modeling positive behavior and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and instructional activities.
- Support students during whole group, small group, and individual learning tasks.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and specials.
- Help prepare classroom materials, displays, and learning centers.
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
- Provide individualized attention and support to students as directed by the teacher.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior guidance strategies.
- Collaborate with the teacher and school staff to meet students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Support students with toileting, dressing, and hygiene needs when necessary (particularly in Pre-K).
- Monitor student progress and behavior, and communicate observations to the lead teacher.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Assist to set up and close classroom for the school year.
- Assist with attendance and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Supervise students during arrival and dismissal.
- Assist with grading papers and tracking student progress, and implementing individual and group class behavior plans.
- Assist with PK, EK, and K graduation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy.
- Understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to students.
- Appropriate control and discipline techniques.
- Associates degree or higher education.
- Clear background check.
- Successful completion of Protecting God’s Children.
- 1–3 years experience in a preschool or school-age classroom.
Ergonomic Requirements
The functions of this position usually performed include standing and sitting, standard lifting, walking, carrying, and other movements. Tasks involve working on a computer keyboard with extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals in this position must perform these tasks without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions.
