Assists classroom teachers in all aspects of the program, helping create a total learning environment tailored to the individual needs of each child. Also responsible for classroom, center, and equipment cleanliness to meet nurturing and physical care responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Non-Degree Program in high school coursework in the Early Childhood Education Career Pathway (Preferred)
  • 1–2 years of experience assisting or teaching children (Required)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification obtained within 1 year of hire
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check determination (Cogent)

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct assistance to teachers and staff as needed in the day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Supports teaching staff, center philosophy, program, and curriculum by assisting with all child care and educational activities.
  • Uses appropriate teaching techniques at all times and guides children in the proper care and use of supplies, learning materials, and equipment.
  • Understands and knows each child’s family and helps with general housekeeping tasks.
  • Promotes a positive environment for children, families, and staff, treating all with dignity and respect while allowing for individual differences.
  • Maintains appropriate communication with staff, children, and families at all times and fosters an open, warm, and professional relationship with all families.
  • Knows and implements all health and emergency policies of the program when necessary.
  • Ensures the safety and security of students while maintaining a clean environment both inside and outside the center.
  • Encourages and instructs children in personal hygiene and group health practices.
  • Reports any suspected child abuse to a supervisor.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the organization’s core values, mission, and vision.
  • Completes mandatory in-services, competency evaluations, and staff meetings on time.
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility through self-education and ongoing training.
  • Demonstrates competency in providing care based on age, sex, weight, and individual needs of patients or, for non-clinical areas, demonstrates age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
