About the role

Responsible for planning, implementing and supervising developmental activities for infants and young children while also ensuring that the classroom environment is appropriate and activities are respectful, safe, nurturing, age appropriate and culturally sensitive for the children and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts screenings and assessments
  • Serves as an educational and informational resource for families and staff
  • Builds and maintains trust with family members and understands their needs/concerns
  • Fosters and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and staff
  • Manages time and prioritizes tasks effectively
  • Communicates and collaborates with colleagues and staff
  • Uses computers and software applications
  • Works with community resources and services

Requirements

  • Valid Infant / Toddler CDA
  • AA or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development, or related field (preferred)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid Driver’s License and current automobile insurance

Qualifications

  • Ability to plan, develop and execute lesson plans that meet individual and group needs
  • Excellent assessment and observational skills
  • Understanding of Infant Mental Health and developmental stages necessary to support and facilitate young children’s efforts to self-regulate their behavior
  • Strong skills in time management and organization of priorities
  • Strong skills in communication, organization and teambuilding
  • Working knowledge of community resources & services and referral procedures & systems
  • Basic understanding of computers including MS Windows and WORD
  • Knowledge/competency in the following areas: Infant & toddler development and behavior, Infant/toddler & family-centered practice, Relationship-based practice, Pregnancy & early parenthood, Family relationships and dynamics, Attachment, separation and loss, Disorders of infancy/early childhood, Cultural competence, Observation and listening, Screening and assessment, Responding with empathy, Advocacy, Life skills, Safety of the home or classroom environment
