About the role
The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is transforming and saving lives by habilitating youth and empowering families and communities. As an Art Teacher, you will play a key role in improving Ohio’s future—one youth, one family, and one community at a time. DYS is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio, serving felony offenders ages 10–21 who have been adjudicated and committed by county juvenile courts. During their stay, youth engage in programming designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs.
Responsibilities
- Assess educational needs of youth and develop lesson plans, including individualized assignments in arts and crafts.
- Administer, score, and interpret exams and projects.
- Maintain discipline and counsel students regarding performance and behavior.
- Attend daily morning meetings, individual meetings, pre-admission and discharge meetings, and parent conferences.
- Prepare required records and reports for grades.
- Order supplies and materials needed for instruction.
- Attend all graduation ceremonies.
- Establish a good rapport with students and staff members.
Requirements
- Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for arts and crafts and the assigned grade level.
- For Teacher 3 (Job Code 71123): Master’s degree required.
- Knowledge of arts and crafts education for middle and high school students.
- Ability to assess educational needs and develop individualized plans as necessary.

Pay
$30.60 to $43.62 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
