About the role

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs and capabilities of students or student groups. Implements the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals through instruction and action.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Supervises students to protect them from conditions harmful to learning or their mental/physical health and safety.
  • Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Diagnoses student learning disabilities and seeks assistance from District specialists as needed.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops and maintains fair classroom behavior rules.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours when required.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides or volunteers and evaluates their performance cooperatively with department heads.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be eligible for Florida Department of Education Certification in the appropriate subject area.

Skills

  • Knowledge of subject content.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to plan and implement a program of study tailored to student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Ability to devote additional hours beyond the workday for grading, lesson planning, etc.
  • Ability to manage students and multiple tasks effectively.
