About the role
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is seeking a Compliance Analyst I to join the Accident and Health Program within the Life and Health Lines Office of the Life and Health Division. This position involves entry-level to routine compliance analysis work, focusing on reviewing, processing, and auditing various types of policy forms and disclosures.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, processes, and audits routine to moderately complex accident and health policy forms, HMO evidence of coverage forms, disclosures, and advertisements for completeness;
- Verifies compliance with laws and regulations;
- Identifies issues regarding compliance with laws and regulations that require follow-up;
- Communicates information to companies about incomplete or incorrect filings, or areas of concern;
- Recommends approval or disapproval of life and health policy forms and endorsements;
- Attends meetings regarding complex issues and provides management and other staff with comments relating to technical life and health insurance topics;
- May assist in reviewing and developing procedures;
- May assist with special projects;
- May assist with the execution of data calls, including data summaries and analysis;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- May evaluate and determine the appropriate action on complaints;
- Affords assistance with researching, responding to, and processing open record requests;
- May research issues concerning the development and interpretation of manuals, rules, and policy forms, and may make recommendations for improvement as appropriate.
Requirements
- Sixty college hours;
- One year of experience in technical insurance matters or in a field related to assignment;
- Regular work attendance;
- Travel may be required for up to 5% of the time.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in a field related to assignment;
- Experience with accident and health insurance;
- Experience with interpreting and applying statutes and regulations.
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of state laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements;
- Demonstrated skill in problem solving and critical thinking;
- Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint;
- Demonstrated skill in using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job;
- Demonstrated skill in maintaining records;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information;
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments;
- Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, insurance industry representatives, and the general public;
- Demonstrated ability to select and accurately transcribe data from several source documents;
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical and analytical thinking skills;
- Demonstrated ability to research, interpret rules, regulations, filing requirements, policies, and procedures.
