TDCJ - Captain of Correctional Officers - Region I

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff and inmates, manage schedules, provide training, and maintain order and safety throughout the facility.
• Monitor activity, guide staff, and support the development of security and work procedures.
• Oversee searches, inmate counts, feeding, movement, and security in housing and work areas.
• Observe inmate behavior, conduct searches, restrain inmates when needed, and handle transfers and transportation.
• Supervise inmates working in areas like construction, maintenance, laundry, food service, industrial, and agricultural operations, both indoors and outdoors.
• Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, assist with evacuations, and use force when required to maintain safety.
• Review inmate records, enforce disciplinary rules, serve as a hearing officer, complete reports, inspect areas for compliance, meet with staff about concerns, and coordinate with other departments and agencies.
• Oversee kennel operations and inmate transportation as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four years of correctional or law enforcement experience.
• At least one year of experience as a midlevel supervisor.
• Understanding of correctional operations and agency policies.

Pay

Retiree salary will be 2.5% less than the posted salary.
