TCI CORRECTION OFFICER

About the role

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking candidates for the position of Correction Officer. This role involves maintaining safety and security within the institution, supervising inmate activities, monitoring security controls, and conducting inmate counts and searches.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas
• Ensure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure
• Operate security controls, equipment, and computers
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches
• Complete required reports and serve on committees
• Prevent escapes or incidents threatening security
• Necessary: Use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates

Requirements

• Highest high school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license for positions requiring transportation
• Commercial driver’s license for driving vehicles qualifying as commercial
• Pass correction officer assessment or have completed within the last 24 months
• Be a current employee with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction who has previously been certified in the position of correction officer

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license for positions assigned to transportation section &/or requires commercial driver's license
• Successful completion of correction officer assessment within the past 24 months
• Current employment with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with certification in the position of correction officer

Benefits

• Starting salary at step 1: $24.88
• Salary increases to step 2: $25.61 after 6 months of employment
• Additional .60 per hour for working 2nd or 3rd shift
