Tax Specialist

Century Group is partnering with a client that is seeking a Sales Tax Specialist to assist their team. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Expected starting pay rate of $45.00 to $50.00 per hour. Job Responsibilities Identify transactions that may have been taxed incorrectly and evaluate opportunities for sales tax recovery. Prepare, submit, and monitor refund claims across multiple jurisdictions while ensuring compliance with applicable filing requirements. Research tax regulations, filing procedures, and recovery guidelines to support accurate claim preparation. Analyze financial records, tax data, and supporting documentation to validate refund eligibility and resolve discrepancies. Collaborate with finance teams and stakeholders to provide status updates, support customer adjustments, and document project results. Requirements 5+ years of experience in sales and use tax, indirect tax, or a related tax specialty. Proven experience preparing and filing sales tax refund claims across multiple states. Strong knowledge of sales tax regulations, tax compliance processes, and refund recovery procedures. Ability to perform detailed tax research, reconciliations, and financial analysis with minimal supervision. Previous experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and filing requirements in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications Prior experience with software, SaaS, technology, digital products, or other complex taxability issues. Familiarity with Avalara or similar tax automation and compliance platforms. Background in public accounting, tax consulting, corporate tax, or indirect tax advisory services. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
