About the role

The Core Tax Services (“CTS”) Senior Manager – ASC740 advises clients on tax implications, evaluates and selects alternative actions to minimize tax burden and compliance costs, identifies methods of complying with tax regulations, and acts as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues.

Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance
    • Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens
    • Resolves tax issues with clients and specialist teams
    • Plans and reviews tax process, budgets, and staffs
    • Manages client relationships and expectations
    • Timely bills and collects accounts receivable
    • Trains managers and staff on research skills and ASC 740 tax issues
  • Tax Accruals
    • Applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding ASC 740
    • Communicates with Assurance team for timely tax accrual reviews
    • Reviews and explains income tax provisions and uncertain tax positions to clients
    • Manages Specialized Tax Services (STS) as needed
  • Tax Consulting
    • Develops and implements efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes
    • Serves as a technical resource and ensures compliance with Firm policies
    • Provides effective exam support and presents complex strategies to clients
  • Tax Specialization
    • Develops in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation
    • Organizes and conducts internal CPE training sessions
    • Trains and mentors managers/senior associates on ASC 740
  • Strategy Development
    • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client, Firm, or Firm personnel positions
    • Makes suggestions for improving previous work products or approaches
    • Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation, required
    • Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred
    • Eight (8) or more years of prior experience, required
    • Prior supervisory experience, required
    • Multinational client experience, preferred
    • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required
    • Software experience with Microsoft Office Tools, Adobe Acrobat, and tax compliance process software
    • Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA
    • Proficient in tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills
    • Able to effectively delegate work
    • Ability to work well in a team environment
    • Able to develop and manage a team of tax professionals
    • Ability to compose written tax advice
    • Able to effectively develop and maintain client relationships
