Tax Senior Manager, ASC740
About the role
The Core Tax Services (“CTS”) Senior Manager – ASC740 advises clients on tax implications, evaluates alternative actions, and identifies methods to comply with tax regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, and business development within an area of specialization, and may require providing written tax advice to clients.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and ensures self and client service teams comply with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
- Top Level Review: Conducts a top-level review of tax returns and resolves all issues with the client; involves specialists where necessary.
- Planning and Review: Plans and reviews the tax process, budgets, staffs, monitors engagement process, and manages client relationships.
- Timely Billing: Manages out-of-scope activity and communicates to clients, collects accounts receivable, and provides timely advice to clients.
- Research: Identifies research needs, frames issues, and reports analysis; involves firm specialists as appropriate.
- ASC 740 Tax Accruals: Applies ASC 740, Firm policies, and BDO TQM; clearly explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients.
- Tax Consulting: Assists with developing and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes.
- Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation; organizes and conducts internal CPE training sessions; trains and mentors associates and seniors.
- Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client, Firm, or Firm personnel positions; leads marketing campaigns if applicable.
- Other Duties: Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation, required; Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
- Eight (8) or more years of prior experience, required; experience in managing ASC740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, required; prior supervisory experience, required; multinational client experience preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
- Software Experience: Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools, Adobe Acrobat, and tax compliance process software.
- Knowledge: Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills; decision-making skills; ability to work well in a team environment; ability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals; ability to compose written tax advice; ability to effectively develop and maintain client relationships.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation, required; Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
- Trains Associates and Seniors on using all current software tools.
- Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates.
- Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
