Tax Senior Associate
About the role
The Senior Tax Associate role is designed for tax professionals looking to advance their career within a supportive, collaborative environment. This position offers the opportunity to own complex tax work, mentor junior staff, and grow into supervisory roles.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofit organizations with limited supervision
- Perform first-level review of returns prepared by Associates, providing constructive feedback and developing technical skills
- Identify tax planning opportunities and present them to managers and partners for client discussion
- Conduct tax research on moderate to complex issues and write clear memos summarizing findings and recommendations
- Serve as a day-to-day client contact on assigned engagements, handling document requests, status updates, and routine technical questions
- Help train and onboard Associates and interns, sharing knowledge of firm systems, workpaper standards, and quality expectations
- Stay current on federal and state legislative changes and apply updates to client work
- Support managers and partners on planning projects, special engagements, and process improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field
- 3–5 years of public accounting experience with substantive tax preparation work
- CPA license or active progress toward licensure (passed or in process)
- Strong technical foundation across individual and business tax, capable of handling returns of moderate complexity independently
- Demonstrated ability to manage time across multiple concurrent engagements
- Solid client-facing communication skills and comfort interacting with clients directly
- Attention to detail, ownership mentality, and a track record of delivering quality work on deadline
Preferred Qualifications
- Active CPA license
- Experience with CCH tax software environment (or demonstrated ability to learn new platforms quickly)
- Exposure to partnership, S-corp, or trust taxation at meaningful complexity
- Experience mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of junior staff
- Familiarity with advisory or planning work beyond compliance
