Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll tax compliance for assigned accounts, including preparation, filing, and remittance of federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of tax accounts and support W-2 processing and year-end tax reporting.
- Resolve complex tax discrepancies, agency notices, and penalty issues, escalating when appropriate.
- Ensure all client tax records are accurate, current, and compliant with applicable regulations.
- Oversee and contribute to new tax account setup, registration updates, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase tax accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Partner with internal payroll and finance teams to resolve cross-functional issues related to tax filings.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll tax systems, tools, and procedures.
- Mentor and provide training to junior tax analysts.
- Affiliate in audit preparation and coordinate responses to agency inquiries.
Requirements
- In-depth understanding of U.S. payroll tax laws and multi-jurisdictional compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in tax reconciliation, filing, and issue resolution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and payroll tax platforms (e.g., TaxEx, ADP SmartCompliance, SAP).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum 3+ years of payroll tax experience, preferably in a multi-client or outsourcing environment.
- Prior exposure to tax audits and government agency correspondence preferred.
