About the Role

This role in our Alternative Investments practice assists in providing tax compliance and consulting services to Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures clients comply with all applicable tax authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and ensures self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
  • Applies understanding of client’s unique circumstances and legal requirements to prepare tax returns, ensuring full compliance while minimizing the client’s tax and reporting burdens.
  • Collects all necessary data for compliance, identifies missing items, and communicates them to prepare returns.
  • Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
  • Collaborates effectively with Managers and Associates to complete projects, including follow-up on open items.
  • Delivers high-quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
  • Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
  • Manages engagements, including billing, collections, and project budgets.
  • Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
  • Assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
  • Mentors teams of Associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, required; OR Bachelor's degree in another focus area and CPA certification, required.
  • Master’s Degree in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of tax experience, required.
  • Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds, including Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred.
  • Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferred.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) (or equivalent), preferred.
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role, preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat, preferred.
  • Experience with tax research databases, preferred.
  • Proficient in tax compliance process software, preferred.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to follow instructions and take appropriate actions without being asked.
  • Seeks advice from superiors regarding compliance-related issues and problems.

Pay

  • California: $84,000 - $110,000
  • Colorado: $72,000 - $90,000
  • Illinois: $80,000 - $93,000
  • Maryland: $90,000 - $94,000
  • Massachusetts: $90,000 - $100,000
  • Minnesota: $75,000 - $84,000
  • New Jersey: $82,000 - $112,000
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $100,000 - $110,000
  • Washington: $80,000 - $95,000
  • Washington DC: $93,000 - $98,000

Individual salaries are determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
