BDO’s Washington National Tax Office (WNT) Advisory practice provides technical leadership and support to firm client-service professionals and alliance firms on tax matters, new legislation, Treasury guidance, and key tax issues. The Managing Director, National Tax Office, ASC 740 collaborates with WNT professionals and tax leadership to drive communication and operational efficiencies.
Responsibilities
- Applies knowledge and expertise to assist internal and external clients with tax planning and compliance.
- Coordinates with WNT, tax leadership, and BDO firm leadership to execute firm strategy.
- Develops and implements firm-wide training programs for staff through partnership in area of expertise.
- Applies, correctly and proactively, Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality & Risk Management Manual (TQRM) regarding ASC 740.
- Explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients, including complexities surrounding ASC 740-10.
- Communicates with Assurance team to timely plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope, and delivery dates.
- Reviews tax provisions and applies in-depth knowledge of ASC 740.
- Reviews prepared workpapers and utilizes Specialized Tax Services (STS), as needed.
- Identifies when research is needed, frames issues clearly, and reports analysis concisely.
- Trains managers and staff on research skills and helps frame ASC 740 tax issues for analysis.
- Develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation (e.g., corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, credits and incentives, R&D tax benefits).
- Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to benefit clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel (e.g., reducing taxes or expenses, providing non-tax benefits).
- Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
- Collaborates with the Firm’s National Tax and Specialized Tax Services to deliver high-quality deliverables and analyses on ASC 740.
- Attends and participates in national, regional, and firm-wide client service efforts, meetings, and initiatives.
- Ensures national business lines conform with the Firm’s technical standards.
- Helps ensure business lines perform within firm regulations and guidelines.
- Provides on-the-job training and supervises the work of associates, senior associates, and managers.
- Develops and manages a team of associates, senior associates, and managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, required.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.
- LLM Tax and/or MST/MBT, preferred.
- Ten (10) or more years of prior experience, required.
- Experience in managing the process of preparing and auditing ASC 740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, required.
- Prior supervisory experience, required.
- Multinational client experience, preferred.
- CPA certification, preferred.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred.
- Proficiency in various tax applications and research tools, required.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on organization and detail.
Pay
- National Range: $190,000 - $300,000
- Maryland Range: $190,000 - $300,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $190,000 - $300,000
