Tax Manager, State and Local Tax

Job Summary

A Tax Manager, State and Local Tax advises clients on tax implications, recommends courses of action, and identifies compliance methods. They also market, network, and develop new business opportunities, providing SALT expertise to clients. They research, analyze, and prepare tax returns, draft tax documents, and represent clients in tax disputes.

Job Duties

• Researches complex tax situations and compiles reports based on research findings.
• Conducts detailed reviews of tax returns and provides responses to notices from state taxing authorities.
• Provides tax consulting services, including drafting tax memorandums and opinions.
• Manages engagements, ensuring tax engagement letters are adopted and client expectations are met.
• Represents clients in tax disputes and negotiates settlements and disclosures.
• Utilizes tax software and research tools to complete tasks.
• Develops and implements tax strategies for clients.
• Supervises SALT Senior Associates and Associates, providing performance feedback and evaluations.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in business, preferred.
• Master’s degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D., preferred.
• Four (4) years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience or legal professional services.
• Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis.
• Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions.
• Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships.
• CPA certification or other relevant certification.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word.
• Familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools.

Pay

National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
