Job Summary

A Tax Manager, State and Local Tax advises clients on tax implications, recommends courses of action, and identifies compliance methods. This role involves marketing, business development, and representing clients in tax disputes. It also includes developing new tax strategies and training junior staff.

Job Duties

  • Researches and analyzes complex tax situations, prepares reports, and interacts with state and local tax departments.
  • Ensures tax compliance by reviewing returns, responding to notices, and supporting exams.
  • Provides tax consulting, writes tax memorandums, and develops client engagement plans.
  • Represents clients in tax disputes and negotiates settlements.
  • Utilizes tax software and research tools to complete tasks.
  • Specializes in state and local tax issues for multi-state companies.
  • Develops and implements tax strategies and assists in new client acquisition.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, with a focus on business preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D. preferred.
  • Four (4) years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience or legal professional services.
  • Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis.
  • Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions.
  • Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships.
  • CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools.

Pay

National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
