Tax Manager - Public
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day leadership of the individual tax practice, setting priorities and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of simple to highly complex federal and multi-state individual income tax returns.
- Act as the main point of contact for individual tax clients, building trusted relationships and responding to ongoing advisory needs.
- Deliver year-round tax planning guidance that helps clients make informed financial decisions and stay ahead of tax obligations.
- Lead, coach, and support tax team members by providing feedback, mentorship, and opportunities for career growth.
- Organize staffing assignments, seasonal scheduling, and workload distribution to maintain efficiency during peak periods and throughout the year.
- Investigate complicated tax matters, interpret regulations, and develop practical solutions to resolve client issues.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen service quality, and improve the overall client experience.
- Partner with firm leadership on technology adoption, operational enhancements, and strategic initiatives that support continued practice growth.
Requirements
- Active CPA license.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related discipline.
- At least 8 years of tax experience within a public accounting setting.
- Demonstrated background reviewing and signing individual income tax returns, including Form 1040 filings.
- Proven success leading staff, managing performance, and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Deep understanding of federal and multi-state individual tax rules and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with current tax software and digital, paperless workflow tools such as CCH ProSystem fx.
- Strong communication, leadership, organization, and process-improvement skills.
