Tax Manager, Oil & Gas Private Equity Funds

About the role

We're looking for a Tax Manager to support the tax function for a growing, energy-focused alternative asset management platform. This role sits at the center of partnership tax compliance and planning for a portfolio of oil & gas joint ventures and fund structures, working closely with deal teams, portfolio company finance leaders, accounting, and investor relations.

Location

Houston, TX (3/4 days a week onsite)

Compensation

$120,000 to $150,000 base

Responsibilities

• Oversee tax compliance across a portfolio of oil & gas joint ventures
• Support portfolio company tax activities and provide transaction tax support
• Review partnership allocations and returns
• Coordinate an outsourced tax compliance function, including partnership returns and K-1 packages, corporate returns and E&P calculations, and quarterly estimates, extensions, and return payments
• Forecast taxable income and tax holdbacks on distributions
• Build and maintain internal tax dashboards and statistical reporting
• Support investor relations with tax-related inquiries and due diligence questionnaires

Requirements

• 4-10 years of partnership tax experience with hands-on exposure to oil & gas tax issues at the operating company level, including depletion, recapture, and IDCs
• Experience within a private equity fund, asset manager, or energy investment platform
• Strong grasp of partnership taxation and multi-entity fund structures
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and large data sets
• Comfortable operating in a small, collaborative team and communicating across disciplines - deal teams, portfolio company CFOs, accounting, investor relations, and treasury

Qualifications

• Big 4 or public accounting background
• CPA
• Direct experience with joint venture tax structures
• Demonstrated use of AI tools in day-to-day workflow
