About the role
The Strategy and Planning Team within the US Firms Tax (“USFT”) group of the Deloitte US Firms is responsible for performing tax research and analyses on US Firms’ transactions, tracking proposed and enacted federal, state, and local legislation, and advising internal functions or business leadership on the tax consequences of various client and vendor obligations.
Responsibilities
- Support the execution of significant US Firms transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and internal restructurings.
- Drive high-quality strategic planning and provide tax accounting/disclosure deliverables in collaboration with other internal functions like Finance, Talent, and the Office of General Counsel.
- Manage workflow, prioritize tasks, coordinate meetings, and communicate with stakeholders.
- Advise businesses and internal functions on tax considerations of transaction-related matters, including structuring alternatives and execution readiness.
- Assist in reviewing and summarizing tax-related provisions in legal documents for US Firms’ transactions to identify tax risks, elections, and post-close action items.
- Develop transaction support materials, including transaction step plans using PowerPoint, and prepare materials to support alignment, decision-making, and execution.
- Perform federal tax technical research, draft clear summaries/memos for the team leader’s review, and provide practical recommendations and implementation steps.
- Assess and implement new federal tax legislation and guidance, support impact analyses, update processes/workpapers, and coordinate stakeholder communications.
- Analyze and compute book-to-tax differences arising from significant transactions, document positions, assumptions, and supporting calculations to enable accurate provision and compliance treatment.
- Support the preparation, review, and maintenance of schedules and workpapers for US Firms’ partnership federal returns, including transaction-specific analyses and required disclosures; help ensure completeness, accuracy, and audit-ready documentation.
- Partner with Finance and support the team leader on tax accounting and financial reporting deliverables, including preparing workpapers and tie-outs.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, templates, and automation related to US Firms’ tax matters; develop recommendations and support implementation under the team leader’s guidance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Taxation required.
- CPA, Enrolled Agent, or other relevant certification.
- Five (5)+ years of prior experience in the federal partnership tax industry.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Preferred: advanced degree, experience in a professional services firm, and prior experience with M&A related transactions.
