Responsibilities
- Assess our client's state and local tax burden and recommend solutions that support their overall business objectives.
- Work directly with the client, manage the tax engagement team, have access to an elite group of specialists when needed, and be connected to a strong support system from firm leadership.
- Aid multi-state companies with state unclaimed property matters including audit defense, voluntary compliance, annual reporting, developing policies and procedures, and consulting.
- Review unclaimed property compliance processes and make recommendations for improvement.
- Aid Deloitte audit teams with review and analysis of unclaimed property reserves.
- Assist multi-state companies with unclaimed property audits which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, reviewing document requests, reviewing audit assessments, and representing the client at meetings.
- Research and draft technical memoranda regarding the jurisdictions unclaimed property compliance rules.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week.
- 5+ years' progressive experience in state and local tax with a focus on Unclaimed Property tax.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
- One of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain: Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA exam; Licensed attorney; Enrolled Agent; CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner).
- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Demonstrable tax knowledge across a wide range of state and local tax areas including state tax compliance, tax planning, tax analysis, and tax research.
- Previous consulting experience from a large accounting or law firm.
- Adept communicator with advanced writing skills, comfortable creating and delivering presentations across all levels of an organization.
- Advanced knowledge of OneSource, GoSystems and/or similar tax software and a strong interest in learning new technology.
