Tax Manager - Indirect Tax - Sales and Use
About the role
Our tax function is constantly evolving, offering a dynamic environment for growth and skill development. As a Sales and Use Tax Manager, you'll be responsible for handling a wide range of tax areas and processes, devising strategic outcomes for complex issues, and advising on indirect tax regulatory changes.
Responsibilities
- Advising on indirect tax regulatory changes
- Designing strategies, operating models, processes, and compliance frameworks
- Identifying opportunities for tax optimization, credits, and refund recovery
- Managing strategies, compliance, remediation, controversies, and corrective filings
- Supporting process review and technology transformation
- Leading optimization, recovery, and exposure-reduction initiatives
- Leading workstream delivery, tracking status, and delivering project deliverables
- Managing budgets, people, and projects
- Guiding teams, driving improvement, and recommending solutions
- Analyzing complex tax operations to provide meaningful business insights
- Communicating potential opportunities and risks to clients
- Managing a motivated team of professionals, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to reach their full potential
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts, and tools
- An achieved CPA qualification, state bar membership, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or CMI designation
- Experience managing budgets, people, and projects
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
- The ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects
- Strong influencing skills and the confidence to question existing processes
- Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid environment
- Experience leading workstreams across planning, execution, and closure
- Contribution to RFP responses and sales growth
- Practical management of engagement economics and resource planning
- Daily participation in client working sessions and strong stakeholder management

Benefits
At EY, we offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including a base salary range from $105,100 to $192,600 in the US, and from $126,100 to $218,900 in the New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento). Additional benefits include medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a flexible vacation policy.

The base salary range for this role in the US is $105,100 to $192,600. The base salary range for the New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento) is $126,100 to $218,900.
