About the role
We are seeking a Tax Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) Services Group in our Northeast Ohio offices: Cleveland, Akron, or Wooster. This role focuses on state income and franchise tax reporting, tax controversy, and consulting. You will develop and implement tax strategies using the latest software technology, manage client engagements, and serve as a trusted advisor on audit representation, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain excellent client relationships on consulting and compliance engagements, focusing on state and local direct tax.
- Advise clients on partnership and corporate state/local tax returns, addressing multistate tax issues.
- Coordinate with an in-house tax preparation team to review estimated payments, withholding, composite tax calculations, and investor packages.
- Manage engagement workflow, talent, and invoicing.
- Act as a trusted business advisor for audit representation, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
- Research and analyze state tax legislation, assisting with compliance and investor reporting.
- Support the proposal process for new and existing clients.
- Mentor and advise engagement team members to support their growth and development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field.
- Master’s degree in taxation is a plus.
- CPA or other appropriate certification is preferred but not required.
- 3-5 years of experience in state income and franchise tax, federal tax, pass-through entities, tax research, or corporate tax returns.
- Experience providing tax planning services is a plus.
- Excellent research, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience working within a CPA firm is preferred.
- Management or supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and basic operating systems.

Pay
Base compensation for this role typically ranges between $100,000 and $130,000, with a generous incentive program and bonus opportunities for exceptional performance.
