About the role
The Tax Manager will assist, review, and maintain all corporate tax compliance, reporting, and audits, including:
- All aspects of federal and state income tax provisions (EBS, GAAP and Statutory basis, current and deferred income taxes)
- All aspects of federal, state, and local tax compliance (income, premium, federal excise, property and use taxes, etc., as well as any federal and state government tax audits)
- Assistance in explaining results to Senior Management and the Board of Directors
- Participation in transaction-related issues and tax-planning initiatives
Responsibilities
- Assist in the review of federal and state income tax accruals & reconciliations (current and deferred taxes; GAAP and SSAP101 and Bermuda EBS), including provision-to-return reconciliations and inter-company FIT settlements
- Review quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures (SSAP101 and GAAP basis)
- Review federal and state income tax compliance, including preparation of federal and state returns, estimated tax payments, and extensions
- Coordinate federal and state audits of all taxes
- Coordinate tax function/documentation with internal and external auditors
- Participate in SOX compliance, including reviewing process narratives and related test work
- Review miscellaneous tax returns and estimates including federal excise, premium/franchise, capital stock, CAT, municipal, use, and property taxes
- Work closely with the team on policyholder and vendor tax administration policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with tax withholdings, reporting requirements, and all tax filings
- Work on ad-hoc projects as needed (merger and acquisition activity, miscellaneous tax research)
- Streamline tax processes and provide training to team members
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of insurance tax accounting experience (life insurance knowledge a plus)
- Highly motivated individual with ability to multi-task and complete deliverables within time constraints and deadlines in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel)
- Proficient in OneSource Tax Provision software (a plus)
Required Education / Certifications
- BA in Finance, Accounting, or similar
- Advanced degree or certification (MST, MSA, CPA)
Pay
Base salary range for this position in Connecticut is $145,000 – $165,000. Specific compensation decisions are based on a variety of job-related factors as permitted by law, including geographic location, credentials, skills, education, training, and experience. Base salary is one component of Wilton Re’s total compensation package, which also includes:

Schedule
Hybrid structure with minimal to no travel required.
